How does a Chinese-American woman find herself living in Buenos Aires, writing a book, and starting a business called Talk Tango? As tango dancers, we all have our individual journeys to take with highs and lows, wrong turns, bruised egos, and stories of love and romance along the way. Talk Tango is simply where I am, and where I want to be right now on my tango journey. So, how did I get here?

The desire to learn tango was immediate. After seeing the dance performed for the first time some fifteen years ago, I knew that it had something unique and intriguing to offer me. I have felt frustrated by the trials and tribulations of learning tango, but the dance itself has never disappointed me. In fact, it has lifted and touched me in ways unexpected. Tango empowers you to communicate through improvisation. That is to say, to interpret music through movement. The results from this artistic and physical conversation can be amazing.

The journey began in New York City. I was an advertising executive by day, and an aspiring tango dancer by night. My final years of corporate life were spent selling commercial time for Black Entertainment Television and A&E Television Networks. The career was a solid one, starting with receptionist and ending with cable sales executive. From the NYC tango scene, I received a dance foundation, and awareness that this passion could very well be a lifelong pursuit.

The next stop was Buenos Aires. I acquired a working knowledge of Castillian, and then decided to begin realizing my potential as a tango dancer. I became dedicated to doing just that, by increasing both the commitment and hours to the dance. In addition, I became more diligent practicing tai chi, to complement my training. The plan was set in motion.

While attending tango classes, I had the chance to meet and talk to people from all over the world. It became apparent that the communication between English and Castillian-speaking tango dancers needed some help, as did I. With that realization, creating a dance-focused, language guide instinctively seemed like the right thing to do. It also happened to be the perfect expression and a reflection, of my life in Buenos Aires. Now, I can hardly wait to see where this tango journey takes me next.

To the dedicated team of professionals, whose talents brought Talk Tango to life, you will forever hold a special place in my heart.
